This gorgeous Azteca horse (Andalusian and Quarter Horse) is a kill pen save originally from Tucson AZ. His story is sad but typical. He was purchased for a rider that could not ride! And of course blamed the horse.
It is believed that Cowboy has had some formal training in the past, but many of his experiences were most likely negative. Cowboy is a powerful, smart and athletic horse who needs a calm, experienced rider. He continues to work on his anxiety triggers (tacking, tying, mounting and standing for the farrier). He is slowly learning to relax and to trust his riding companion.
While, Cowboy is not for a beginner this soulful horse is one of the best horses on the trail! Once he feels comfortable with what is asked of him, Cowboys sweet, kind and playful nature really shines through. He continues to improve every day and has won over the hearts of everyone at the ranch.
Don't be alarmed if you see a wandering horse at the ranch.....that would be Cowboy our designated equine patrol!
